2024 Nero d'Avola

A$32.00

Single vineyard, hand-picked, small batch, whole berry, open ferment following a cold soak. Beautiful fresh and bright red berried fruit, with a complex mix of dried herb and spice. Refreshing acidity and structured finish.

Produced from a single vineyard just east of the township of McLaren Vale in an ancient river bed. Picked early to retain the natural acidity and freshness. Destemmed only, whole berries in small open fermenters following a 4-day cold soak. Wild fermentation allowed to start for a few days then over seeded with cultured yeast. Total time on skins 14 days. Pressed to older seasoned small format oak where it was matured for 6 months prior to bottling. No fining. Minimal additions.

13.4% Alc/Vol

“Nero can look a little confected, but not so here. The savouriness and bright, juicy appeal are keenly matched or, rather, intertwined. Black cherry and sarsaparilla, dried raspberry and dark spices, a trimming of woody herbs. It’s medium in scale, with ‘ripe’ fine tannins and an enlivening zip of acidity to close, giving this ready charm along with purpose at table.”
